The Nissan Sentra Delivers Technology and Features in an Affordable Package
The Nissan Sentra has been a favorite vehicle in the United States for decades, gaining popularity right from its introduction thanks to its features, comfort, and fuel efficiency. The compact footprint of the Sentra means that it can go further on every drop of fuel, but you still get an incredibly spacious interior. The Sentra can easily fit five passengers, including four adults with plenty of room to spare. The sleek exterior draws the eye no matter where you choose to drive this small Nissan sedan. This is in a large part thanks to its aerodynamic silhouette and sporty profile. The Sentra also offers numerous configurations, so you can easily customize it to meet your needs, even before you consider option packages and accessories. With the variety of selections, economical pricing and fuel efficiency, it’s easy to see why the Sentra is one of the most popular cars on the market.
Updates for the 2017 Nissan Sentra
Although Nissan made several updates to the 2017 Sentra, the most notable one was the addition of an SR Turbo trim level with its own turbocharged engine. This model runs on a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that adds 66 horsepower and 52 pound-feet to the base engine’s figures, enhancing thrills and giving you an enjoyable ride. The new Sentra SR Turbo is available with a 6-speed manual or CVT depending on your driving style. Going with the new SR Turbo trim level gives you more than just the additional power of the turbocharged engine; you also get enhanced style via a leather-wrapped steering wheel and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. To keep up with the power from the turbo engine, this trim also has brake pads with a higher than normal heat resistance and a stiffer suspension. There are even larger front brake discs to hold these unique brake pads and provide you with even better stopping power.
The Long History of the Nissan Sentra
The Nissan Sentra has been around for over five decades, as it began production in Japan during the middle of the 1960s. This original model was a rear-wheel drive vehicle and remained that way for multiple incarnations. Finally, the front-wheel drive version arrived in 1982 in Japan, which was also the first year it was available in the United States. The Sentra beat multiple competitors to the punch in offering front-wheel drive and was the very first Nissan to be built in the United States. The first generation of the Sentra available in the U.S. was available as a sedan or wagon with four doors, or a coupe or hatchback with two doors. The wagons and hatchbacks were dropped much later in 1992 as part of the third-generation model.
The first Sentra ran on a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine or a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder which got 74 and 85 horsepower, respectively. You could choose from a manual or automatic transmission and the Sentra won plenty of support for its status as one of the most fuel-efficient cars offered at the time. The second-generation Sentra grew in size and power, offering 84 or 90 horsepower. It also had a revised four-wheel independent suspension. The Sentra has continued to grow throughout its history as well. The first one was 163 inches long with a 94.9-inch wheelbase. By 2000, the Sentra was 177.5 inches long with a 99.8-inch wheelbase and has grown more since then. With each year and new model, better features were added and the size increased slightly.
